Letter from Ben's Wife

Dear Betty,

I am writing to thank you for the quilt you made in honor of my husband Sgt. Benjamin F. Moore III. The quilt is so beautiful I can’t even begin to tell you how much it means to me. Ben was killed February 21, 2003; during a military training exercise at Fort Hood in Texas. It is hard to believe that nearly two years have passed since Ben’s death. At the time our daughter, Hannah, was only two months old. Ben was so proud of her!

I was very blessed to have Ben in my life. When we first met I was fourteen and he was fifteen. We dated on and off for nine years but in our hearts we always knew we were meant to be together. In November of 2001 Ben came home on leave and we ran into each at a party. From that moment on we spent all our time together and just two weeks later We were married. Five months later we learned that we were going to have a baby and couldn’t have been happier.

On December 12, 2002 we celebrated our one-year wedding anniversary and just two days later our beautiful baby girl was born. From the moment she was born Ben was wrapped around her finger. He was an amazing father, we would change diapers, sing her to sleep, feed her, and didn’t ever want to put her down. When visitors came to the hospital he would let them hold her for a few minutes and then would ask for her back. He couldn’t get enough of her. It was such a happy time for our family. Each day that goes by I am amazed at how much Hannah has learned and changed in her two years of life. Each of her new accomplishments brings an overwhelming sense on joy and sadness.

I wish that Ben could be here to see her grow. Knowing that Ben has not been forgotten means so much to our family. I know that the quilt that I received was made with love and that means the world to me. Thank you for remembering and honoring our hero.

Yours Truly,

Shauna Moore
