Sgt. Maj. Michael B. Stack 48, a Special Forces Company Sergeant Major assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Fort Campbell, Ky., was killed in Iraq April 11 when his convoy was ambushed near Baghdad.
Dear Mrs. Nielsen,
Please accept my apologies for the lateness of this thank you letter. Words have been so difficult to write and I still don’t know how to put into words what I felt when I opened your box of beautiful quilts and read your letter. All I can say is thank you for the quilts that you sent to me and my children. They are beautiful and really helped make us feel loved during a really difficult time. We wrapped ourselves in them right away.
I can’t tell you how much you touched our hearts and those of our family and friends who see your quilts being used everyday. The amount of work that goes into making each quilt must be enormous! The love and support you and your quilters have showed us is a real encouragement to us to continue on even though a truly amazing part of our family is now gone.
God has been good to us and continues to comfort and carry us through each day. I pray He blesses each quilter and that you are all comforted with the knowledge that you do indeed make a huge difference in the lives of the surviving families. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
My husband was killed in a convoy that was ambushed on April 11, 2004 in the Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was a father to six children, Bryan, Milissa, Virginia, Jillian, David and William, and a grandfather to three, Jakob, Tylor and Jesse. And he was the most incredible husband in the world and he will be missed immensely. Thank you again for touching our lives in such a wonderful way.
